[edit] Tycoon Meteorite

After the cutscene, our mysterious hero and his mighty steed (well, chocobo at any rate) will be off to investigate the meteor. Don't bother going north, it just leads to a dead end. Instead, go east (right), where you'll see the meteor. Step on it to investigate further.

Eventually you'll have to get off Boko, so do so and follow the path, until you see a young lady being carried off by a pair of goblins. A fight between you and the two goblins commences, it isn't difficult (far from it, it's hell easy), just hit them and they go down and a cutscene occurs afterwards. You can then choose a name for our hero, and for the sake of everyones sanity in this walkthrough he will henceforth be called Bartz.

When you regain control of Bartz, you should go right then down and keep walking at the walls until you find the hidden corridor that will lead you to a phoenix down. It's hidden amongst the leaves, but it isn't that difficult to find. Once you've found that, get out of the passage and go up, on the far right side should be an old guy lying on the ground.

Watch the cutscene, then go out the way you came in.

Head west then north, between the mountains, and you'll leave the world map and be bucked off your chocobo. Continue north, defeating the monsters as you go, grab Lenna and Galuf (no, you don't have a choice in this), and continue north.
After the cutscene, you now have access to the hidden cave...

[edit] The Hidden Cave and the Pirates Hideout

This cave is very linear, you don't really need directions. There is a healing spring not that far from the entrance, making it ideal for training. There is also a chest containing a leather cap further on from the spring.

Continue onwards and there is a small scene where a pirate is seen pressing a button and opening the door. Once he's gone, do the same and you're in the Pirates Hideout.
Leap out into the corridor in plain site and Galuf and Lenna start wondering if you're in your right mind. Doesn't matter, the guard is asleep, and there's a ship! Lenna wonders if you can get a ride on it, and Galuf wonders if they could steal it. Either way, jump aboard the ship, go to the steering wheel, 'yo-ho and stuff!' start sailing. As if a Final Fantasy game could be that easy...

Watch the cutscene and you then get access to the Pirate Ship.

[edit] Tule

When you gain access to the ship, one of the crew will ask if you'd like him to steer you towards the wind shrine. If you have no faith in your navigation ability or you just want to finish off this game quick, say yes. If you want to go and get some loot for the battles up ahead (ie, a sword or staff for Galuf as he hasn't got any weapons), go west (left on the screen), where you'll find the village of Tule. Tule has weapons, armour, magic and item shops, and the pirates will draw your attention to a pub and the 'grog' or 'rum' (depending on which version you're playing) within. There is also the Beginners House, where people new to the game can learn stuff. Old hands should go there anyways, as there are a few cool items (gil, potions, tents and a leather cap. also the chest upstairs contains a goblin, which eventually yields the running shoes after you defeat it) hanging around - most of them are hidden, but are easy to find.

Once you've finished your shopping and looking around, head east towards the Wind Shrine.

[edit] The Wind Shrine

Once you're in the wind shrine, head up and then left to find a bunch of people fretting over Lenna's father, the king. Talk with the people to learn about the situation, there's also a healing pot here and make sure you talk to the guy on your lower left, if you speak with him you get 5x Tonics.

Go up the stairs that are on the other side of the room, on the left side is a chest with a Tent. Continue through the door to get to a Save Point (you have to access the menu to save your game), you can use a Tent or Cottage here to heal up, but it's a better idea to just use the healing pot on the floor below. The next room, when you head right and up the stairs will have a room with a chest containing a Leather Cap. Get back down again to go up the other staircase on the eastern side, follow the hall and go into the room that's near that nasty-looking monster, there's a Broadsword hanging around here somewhere. Go up to the nasty looking monster to start your first boss fight!

Wingraptor
HP: 250 MP: 0 Weaknesses: None, Nullifies: None, Absorbs:None
This boss can be tough if you're unprepared for it, so prepare by giving the formerly unarmed Galuf that Broadsword that you found. Do not attack the beast while it's wings are not extended, as it will counter-attack with a move called Iron Nail which will seriously inconvenience your party, to put it lightly. Keep pounding on it to finally beat it.

After this you get a little cutscene, which will lead to events that allow you to take on a certain role or 'job'. The 'Job' command is now available in the party menu, so watch the tutorial and choose yourself a job (Thief, Knight and White Mage classes are recommended, and having all your people have the 'Learning' ability on them, which is gained by having your character as a level 2 Blue Mage is a real bonus, as there are 3 possible Blue Magic abilities to be learned from monsters nearby).

Your next destination is Tule.
